At the former Colonial Golf Course property in Lynnfield Massachusetts, National Development and partners first had to consider the Town of Lynnfield's goals of economic development, affordable housing, and open space preservation. Creating a new "downtown" in an upscale bedroom community requires a "big" design idea and lots of grassroots work in the community.
National Development's work in Lynnfield will result in one of the most dynamic retail, office, and residential communities in the country. We envision a traditional, New England Main Street with vibrant retail, restaurant, and office buildings centered around a village green. The development will preserve over 100 acres of open space, including a wildlife preserve and a nine-hole golf course to be operated by the town.
Meadow Walk also includes 180 luxury golf course apartments that will help the town satisfy its affordable housing goals. The master plan for the property includes a 280-room Sheraton hotel and a Boston Sports Club, both of which will enhance the new development.
What did it take to make it happen? National Development's project team worked closely with the Town of Lynnfield for a year to prepare for an open Town Meeting, which was attended by almost 2000 town residents. Preparation included over 100 public meetings, neighborhood coffees, and negotiations with various constituencies. Voters approved the project by a large margin above the necessary two-thirds vote.
Meadow Walk at Lynnfield is scheduled to begin construction in 2008 and will be completed in 2009-2010.
